Hi, Would anyone happen to know if the clutch worm lever on laydown gearbox for a Manx is the same as those used on your typical 1949-56 laydown gearbox. Thanks Lou

All the "laydown" gearboxes use the same clutch actuating arm and worm, although some have a pinch stud and nut and some have a bolt. The arm is different to the "dollshead" type which has more offset and a bigger shaft. The original Manx handlebar lever has lever pivot to nipple centres of 1 1/8" (29mm) and a long reach. The cable moves 7/8" (22mm) when actuated. If the handlebar lever is incorrect I have on occasion shortened the clutch worm actuating arm by 1/4" (6.4mm) and bronze welded the nipple holder back on to increase the throw. This will make the clutch action heavier but can help free the clutch if it is dragging too much. Ken McIntosh
